After a gallant battle with neuroendocrine cancer, Jack Edward Elder, 79, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at the Carolyn Croxton Slane Hospice Residence.

Born Aug. 28, 1933, in Bellefonte, Pa., he was the oldest son of the late Henry and Kathryn Elder.

He graduated from State College Area High School, attended Penn State and was an Army veteran of the Korean War Era, serving as a Sgt. in the Radio Operator Division.

On April 21, 1956, he married the former Peggy Morris.

Jack retired from Bell Telephone as a service manager in microwave and radio.

He was a long-time member of Colonial Park Community Baptist Church, Telephone Pioneers of America, AARP, William Snyder Lodge No. 756
F&AM, Harrisburg Consistory, State College BPOE No. 1600 and The Nittany Lion Club.

He was also a life member of the Penn State Alumni Assoc. and an avid Penn State football fan.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy; two loving sons, Dr. Jay Elder and wife Deborah of Punxsutawney and Joel Elder of Milton; a brother, William and wife Cynthia of Danville; and five favorite grandchildren, Jennifer Elder Cappella and husband Michael of Wayne, Amy Elder Wech and husband Matthew of Red Lion, Tiffany Elder and boyfriend Travis Eyster of Milton, Brent Elder and fiancée Lauren Franssen of Severn, Md., and high school senior Alexander Elder of Milton.

Also surviving are dear friends, including the team of chemo travel warriors, Eileen Smith, the warrior team leader; James and Maryellen Kepler; Gay Bomgardner and Maryln Stum; Minta Wolf; and Norma Watson.

Jack was blessed by their devotion and lifted up by their love.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Colonial Park Community Baptist Church, with the Rev. Gary Firster and Pastor David Withers officiating.

Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday at the church.

Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Arrangements are being handled by the Miller-Sekely Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc.
