FREDERICKSBURG, Va. Katherine S. Pope, 94, formerly of Johnson City, Tennessee, died Friday, July 9, 2010, at the Carriage Hill Health and Rehabilitation Center in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
She was a native of Middlesboro, Kentucky, daughter of the late Walter Shuff Sr. and Audie Elliott Shuff. Katherine was a homemaker and longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Johnson City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Carrier Pope, in 1996; two brothers, Edward and Walter Shuff Jr.; and a sister, Pauline Brock.
Survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn P. Kyker, of Fredericksburg, VA, and Marilyn McKenzie, of Tampa, FL; a son-in-law, Brigadier General Kenneth L. McKenzie (USMC), of Tampa, FL; a grandson, 1st Lieutenant Kenneth R. McKenzie (USMC), Jacksonville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Clute and her husband, Edd, of Berea, KY, and Ella Mae Pope, of Long Island, NY; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 15, 2010, from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and then leave in procession from Morris-Baker Funeral Home to the Monte Vista Memorial Park at 12:40 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in Monte Vista Memorial Park under the direction of Rev. Louis Imsande. Active pallbearers will be selected from friends, family and Morris-Baker Staff.
