Edward was born in Londonderry, Ireland sometime in 1749. He immigrated to America between 1756-62 and settled in Valley Forge, PA. He fought in the Battle of Brandywine in 1777, as part of the American Revolution. He married a Ms. Peters of Philadelphia, with whom he had a son, however both died in childbirth. Edward married Mary Stalford on 3 August 1778. Ten children from this union:

He owned and worked gypsum plaster mines. On May 8th and 9th, 1803, Edward moved his family to Union Springs, Springport, Cayuga County NY, where he lived until he died. His exact tombstone was not located but he's said to be buried in Oak Glen Cemetery.
