Born in Monongalia, VA (became WV in 1863) to Jonathan Spurgeon and Ruth Jefferys in 1808. He married Elizabeth Hall and moved his family of 9 children to WI where they are 1st enumerated in 1855. The oldest 5 sons fought with WI troops in the Civil War. Their children are:
