David, 89, passed away at 7:50 p.m., at his home.

He was the son of Wilbur and Adah (Alspaugh) Smalley. On Jun 2, 1951, he married Margery Smith, who survives.

Also surviving are a son, Robert (Susan), Rockford; a daughter, Kathy (Thomas) Custer, Marysville; a brother, Thomas, Celina; and three grandchildren: Bryan Smalley, Clayton Custer and Andrew Custer.

Deceased are a brother, Jacob; and two sisters: Carrie Sipe and Bessie Hoffines.

He was a 1942 graduate of Rockford High School. He was in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in the 41st Infantry, working as a corporal under General McArthur. He worked as a Forman at Teleflex, Van Wert. He was a member of the Rockford United Methodist Church, where he was active in the church and a faithful Christian, serving on many committees. He farmed all of his life and an Ohio Farm Bureau Member. He was a member of the Rockford American Legion Post #508, and "TJ's Early Morning Round Table-advisor on World Affairs". He was an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time working in his orchard.

Funeral Services will be at Ketcham-Ripley Funeral Home, Rockford, with Pastor Chip Steffy officiating.
