Lucy Gibson Haga, 94, a former resident of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away Monday, March 13, 2006 at Flagler Hospital, Saint Augustine, Florida. She was born in Russell County, Virginia, August 21, 1911, to the late Flora Childress Gibson and Henry Smith Gibson. Lucy was a loving wife and mother who took great pride in her home, gardening, cooking, and caring for others. She was also a lifetime member of the Abingdon United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Haga, two brothers, Cline Gibson and Henry Gibson, two sisters, Mayme O'Brien and Katy Moore, and her son, Britton Haga.

She is survived by her daughter, Jane Haga Smith, grandson, David Smith, son-in-law, Ray Smith, two nieces, Mary Martha Storke and Robin Williams, three great nieces, Renee Baughan, Cecily Williams Gooch, and Ansley Williams (whom Lucy considered her grandchildren) and extended family and friends.

A memorial service celebrating Lucy's life will be held at a later date in Abingdon, Virginia. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing may make memorial contribution in memory of Mrs. Haga to lung cancer research or the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 East Main Street, Abingdon, Virginia 24210. Relatives would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Flagler Hospital and North East Florida Community Hospice for their loving help and care.
