As briefly announced in the Eagle of yesterday, Mr. Sidney E. Rhodes died at his home in this city yesterday morning at 12:55 o'clock. He had been ill from an acute malarial attack for only a few days, and his death was a great shock to the family and friends. His condition became serious on Wednesday afternoon, but later he showed improvement, only to relapse again Thursday evening from which time little or no hope was entertained of recovery.

Mr. Rhodes was born and reared in Bryan and was known and esteemed by everybody for his frank and generous disposition, splendid business qualities and personal worth. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Rhodes and was 30 years, 8 months and 21 days old. He was a graduate of the A. and M. College and has been actively engaged in business life for ten years, having for several years past been associated with his brother, Mr. H. G. Rhodes, in the business of the Chatham Machine Co., of this city. He traveled extensively and had a large acquaintance in this and other sections of the state, and his splendid qualities made him as popular elsewhere as he was at home. he was a member of the Baptist church and a young man of high ideals and principles. He was a member of Bryan lodge No. 859, B.P.O.E., and held several important positions in the order.

The surviving members of the family are Mr. H. G. Rhodes, Mrs. Jno. Q. Tabor of Houston, and Miss Edith Rhodes, Mrs. Lucy King, Mrs. J.L. Connor and Mrs. Fred Connor, the two latter residing in Madison county These and other relatives have the deep and sincere sympathy of many friends. Capt. Tabor and family are in Boston and will not have time to reach Bryan for the funeral, which will be held from the family home this morning at 10 o'clock. Dr. Butler has been summoned from Palacios to conduct the service.
