Funeral services for a former Crisfield city Councilman, Simmons P. Tilghman, 78, were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23rd the Bradshaw and Sons Home.
Mr. Tilghman died on Wednesday, July 20th in the Tawes Nursing Home after a long illness. He was a retired investigator for the Maryland Alcohol Beverage Commission. He served two terms in the City Council.
Officiating at the funeral was the Rev. Dallas W. Butler. Interment was in Sunnyridge Memorial Park.
Born in Crisfield, he was a son of the late Peter M. and Annie Lewis Tilghman. His memberships included Immanuel United Methodist Church, Crisfield's Chesapeake Masonic Lodge, No. 147, Boumi Shrine Temple in Baltimore, the Scottish Rite, and the Eastern Shore Shrine Club and the Lambda Fraternity,
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Emily Lawson Tilghman, a daughter, Mrs. Anne T. Berch, Baltimore, one granddaughter and two nieces.
The family suggests that as a tribute to the memory of the deceased, contributions be made to the Auxiliary of the Alice Byrd Tawes Nursing Home, in care of the treasurer, Mrs. Lorraine Long.
