The Anaconda Standard (MT), 6 April 1890

Two brothers, near Big Timber, a few days ago were fooling with a revolver, which they supposed to be empty. It went off shooting Horatio Gage and killing him instantly. A strange fatality for the last few years has followed the Gage family. The father, a well-to-do ranchman, and a brother were drowned in the Yellowstone. Two daughters after his death were sent to Helena to attend school and died in that city of diphtheria. The mother next died, and now Horatio, a find lad just entering manhood, is suddenly slain.
