Clara Loretta Madzo was born August 14, 1911, south of Minnesota Lake, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Dusza) Rathai. She married Joseph J. Stenzel on Oct. 16, 1929 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Minnesota Lake. He died on April 8, 1967. She then married Joseph Madzo at St. Casimir Catholic Church in 1970; he preceded her in death in 1972.
She was an active member of the Rosary Society, the prayer chain, and the CCW of St. Casimir Catholic Church. In 1950 she helped to organize the hot lunch program at St. Casimir's school where she worked for 6 years.
For years she weaved rugs, sold Avon and Better Brushes. She loved gardening, fishing, and canning. Clara worked for Segar's Bakery, one season at the canning factory, Brown's Cafe, and 17 years at Fran's Bakery until her retirement in 1970.
Clara is survived by two daughters: Leona Simons of Cannon Falls, MN and Eleanor (husband Cletus) Rath of Easton, MN; son: Roger (wife Sylvia) Stenzel of Columbia Falls, MT; 11 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. 3 sisters: Marie Steppel of Rogers, MN, Angeline (husband Francis) Schultz of Janesville, MN, and Bernice Trimbo of St. Peter, MN; and one brother: Lawrence (wife Evelyn) Rathai of Mankato, MN, and sister-in-law: Laverda Rathai of St. Peter, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, one great-grand daughter, Rebecca Rath, one sister Audrey Rathai, 3 brothers: Louie, Dominic, and Eugene Rathai, sister-in-law Mary Rathai; brother-in-law Leslie Steppel; and son-in-law Richard Simons.
