Marine Engineer; put engine in "Alice Gertrude" and worked with the boat until 1906. Also on city of Seattle and traveled to Orient and elsewhere from Seattle.
He married Anna Jane Gowans (Annie Jane) in Scotland, came "round the Horn" to Puget Sound in 1890. His wife and children arrived in 1891. He bought property on Queets River.
Children were James, Jr., Margaret (Maggie), Jane/Jean. Isabel(born in Tacoma), two unnamed who died in infancy, and Willieminnie, who lived for about one month.
A brother, William (#111900661)and sister Elizabeth (#69819224)Fowler, also came to US.
