Son of Asa Bond and Lavina Axtell,
Henry was a farmer in Chester.
Henry served with Company G of the 11th Vermont Volunteer Infantry. He enlisted on August 11, 1862, and mustered in on September 1st. Henry was promoted to Corporay on June 12, 1865. On April 2, 1865, he was wounded at Petersburg, Virginia. The battle that day resulted in General Lee withdrawing his troops from Petersburg and Richmond; on April 9th General Lee surrendered to General Grant. Henry was mustered out on June 24th.
After the war, Henry returned to farming in Vermont. He married Olivia Kingsbury on January 14, 1873. Their children:

In 1880, the US Census shows the family living in Springfield, Vermont. They later moved to Chester.
