Son of Orren Beard and Rebecca Field Beard. Various records spell his father's given name as Orin, Oren, Orren and Owen.

Warren served as a fife player in company H of the 16th Vermont Infantry. He enlisted on August 29, 1862, mustered in on October 23 of the same year. He mustered out on August 10, 1863.

On August 3 1869, Warren married Eliza Stickney in Chester, Vermont. By 1870, the couple were living in Grand Junction, Greene, Iowa, where Warren was farming. (The family name appears to be spelled "Baird" on that Census. In 1880, Warren was a saloon keeper in Grand Junction. They lived with or next door to Warren's brother, Orin (probably Orren).

By 1900, Warren and Eliza returned to Chester, Vermont, with their daughter Mabel E Beard. The 1910 Census indicates Warren was working for a scythe maker.

Transcripts of Warren's Vermont death record indicate he passed away in 1920. This appears to be an error; his memorial stone lists 1912. The record states he was working as a 'Stick shaver' when he died.
