STAUNTON, VA…
Thomas William Small, 93, widower of Phyllis Amelia (Hartman) Small, of Augusta County, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Augusta Health.

He was born December 18, 1919, in Nelson County, a son of the late George Washington and Mary (Glass) Small.

Mr. Small served in the U.S. Army. He loved to tell war stories of his days in Italy especially with his friend, Bill Ballew of Mint Spring.

He was a retired dairy farmer. He was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church where he was Elder Emeritus.

Family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth "Beth" and Frank Peele of Augusta County; one grandchild, Heather Elizabeth Myles of Virginia Beach; and two great grandchildren, Brandon and Jackson Myles, both of Virginia Beach. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Dr. Phil Sommer.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 563 Bethel Green Road, Staunton, VA 24401.

The family would like to send special thanks and deep appreciation to his caregiver, James Harris, along with his family and Dr. Lynn Moore.
