Suggested edit: The Milan Republican, Milan, Missouri, issue 23 Feb 1893, Thu, page 2, contains an obituary with the following information:

Thomas Montgomery, well-known to most of the citizens of Sullivan county, and especially well-known to people of Polk township, after a short illness, died February 12 '93, and was buried in his own family burial ground, near his home in Jackson township February 18... About one year ago he had a very severe attack of lagrippe from which he never fully recovered from, and to which cause may probably be traced to the cause of his death.
Our friend was born in Wayne County, Ohio, July 13, 1834, and was 58 years, seven months, and two days old at the time of his death. He was the son of William Montgomery, known to all the early settlers as Uncle Billy Montgomery, and Elizabeth (Gates) Montgomery. He was one of a family of eight children: two brothers, Isaac Montgomery who died a few years ago in this county, and William Montgomery now living in Colorado. Five sisters, Mrs. James Henry and Mrs. A.S. McDuff, of Sullivan county, Mo., Mrs. Margaret St. Clair, of Indiana, Sarah Boyd, formerly the wife of James Boyd, of Milan, Mo., and Mrs. William Morrison of Nebraska.
Thomas Montgomery came from Ohio to Sullivan county, Mo., about the year 1851, and has been a resident of the county ever since, a period of forty-two years, and was one of the early or pioneer settlers... He married June 3rd, 1860, to Mary Caroline Baldrige, daughter of Daniel Baldrige, who was also an early settler of this county. This union was blessed with seven children, five of whom, as well as the wife, survive to mourn the loss of a very kind, indulgent, father and husband. Mattie Payne, the wife of Addison Payne, of Milan, and Daniel, William, Ben and Nova Montgomery, all of whom live in Sullivan county. Two children, one son and one daughter, died several years ago.
