Virginia Volnie Houston-Vinson, 99, of Alvin, Texas died Wednesday, June 5, 2013.
She was born on January 24, 1914 in Henderson, Texas and had previously lived in Batesville, Arkansas. She was a seamstress, a drapery shop owner and attended Central Avenue United Methodist Church.
Mrs.Vinson was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Houston and Banna Gamble Houston; her husband, W. E. Vinson; a daughter, Deana O'Bier; a brother, Fred Houston, Jr.; and sisters: Nell Biggs, Katherine Kendrick, Lucille Houston and Mary Barnwell.
She is survived by her daughters, Katherine Beard of Alvin, TX and Lynda Kerr of Maumelle, AR; eight grandchildren: Leslie Blair of Evansville, IN, Kristi Beard Flatt of Friendswood, TX, Tammy South of Springdale, AR, Greg Beard of Pearland, TX, Allen Ford of Batesville, AR, Andra Ford Felton of Bryant, AR, Laura Lumpkin of Russellville, AR, and Phillip Kerr of Jackson Heights, NY; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ben Houston of Baton Rouge, LA.
The graveside services will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery with Bro. Paul Seay officiating. The family is under the care of the Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
