The town of West Bend lost one of its' old and esteemed citizens, when Donath Thoma answered the last summons at his farm home in the vicinity of Little Cedar Lake yesterday, Oct. 22, 1918. He had contracted pneumonia last Wednesday and succumbed six days later.
Decedent was born on December 7, 1839, in Baden, Germany, and came to this country in 1846, settling in the town of Polk. In 1869 he bought a farm in the town of West Bend which had been his home ever since. His marriage to Miss Rosa Braun occurred on February 6, 1869. Their union was blessed with ten children, of whom he leaves eight, together with his widow, to mourn his demise, namely; Paul, Mary (Mrs. John W. Gehl), Henry, Tena (Mrs. Stephen Bauer), Ross, Katie (Mrs. M. L. Gehl), Christ, and Sophia (Mrs. Ph. Wagner). Frank died in 1906, and Sophie in 1878.
Mr. Thoma was as good a man as one may wish to meet on the face of this earth. He combined nobility of heart with sound judgment of mind. He possessed courage and perseverance to brave contrary circumstances. His family life was immaculate, and he was a good citizen of his adopted country. He will live on in the hearts and will be cherished in the memories of his children as an idealized example of all that is worth striving for in life.
The funeral will be held on Friday morning at ten o'clock from the home to Holy Angels Catholic church, where Rev. Lederer will read a requiem mass. Burial will be made in the congregation's cemetery.
Newspaper and date published is unknown.
