Novelist and Playwright He began his career as a rural teacher in the sugar cane zone. He continued his educational career at the University of Puerto Rico, in the Department of Hispanic Studies. In 1951, he obtained his doctorate of the University of Columbia, in New York. His work "La Llamarada" is considered the most important novel of the Generation of the Thirties His other important works are "Solar Montoya "(1941), "Febrero 30 "(1943), "La Resaca" (1949), "Los dedos de la mano" (1951), “La ceiba en el tiesto (1956), “Cauce sin río”(1962), and several others.
