Melvin Eugene Douglas, 83 of Newbern, Tennessee died on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at his residence in Newbern, Tennessee.

Born Tuesday, February 11, 1930 in Newbern, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Arthur Lee Douglas and the late Amanda Viola Williams Douglas.

He was a retired employee of Dyersburg Fabrics, United States Air Force Veteran serving in the Korean War and member of Newbern Assembly of God Church where he served as former Deacon, Treasurer and Sunday School Superintendent.

Graveside services for Mr. Douglas will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, June 6, 2013 at Fairview Cemetery in Newbern, Tennessee. Officiating this service will be Rev. Lyndel Fisher. Visitation for Mr. Douglas will be from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Johnson-Williams Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Gertie Pledge Douglas of Newbern, Tennessee; one son, Micheal E. Douglas & wife Terry of Newbern, Tennessee; one daughter, Melinda Caricio & husband Aniceto of Newbern, Tennessee; two brothers, Robert Douglas of Churchton, Tennessee and Marlin Douglas of Crown Point, Indiana; four sisters, Maxine Crenshaw of Newbern, Tennessee, Christine Cummings of Alsup, Illinois, Angelene Standridge of Murray, Kentucky and Sylvia Reece of Dyersburg, Tennessee; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a great-grandchild, Abigail Maxedon; one brother, Oliver Douglas and two sisters, Ursula Simmons and Irene Pease.

Pallbearers will be Matthew Douglas, Tyler Douglas, Stanley Crenshaw, Brandon Douglas, James Tivey, Jason Maxedon, Lynn Bradford and Logan Tivey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Camp, Max Poole, Dalton Maxedon, Morgen Douglas and Justin Godwin.
