He was a Bombardier and one of seven airmen killed when B-17F Flying Fortress #42-5981 crashed, six miles northwest of the Dalhart Army Airfield, Texas. Returning during a nighttime training flight from Oklahoma City, the bomber was attempting to let down in instrument flying conditions through heavy overcast and collided with the ground and exploded, killing the men instantly, at 02:24 hours, September 24, 1943.
