Ellen E. Amundson, age 96, of Roseau, MN, passed away on April 9, 2010, at the LifeCare Roseau Manor.
Ellen was born on June 13, 1913, in Grimstad Township of Roseau County, MN, to Caroline (Olsson) and Olaf W. Erickson. She attended school in Grimstad Township and graduated from Badger, MN, High School in 1932. She attended Normal School (teacher's training) in Warroad, MN, graduating in 1933. Ellen worked as a teacher for 12 years in rural schools in Roseau County and one year in Otter Tail County, MN.
She and Arthur Amundson were married on November 29, 1945, in Roseau, MN. Ellen stayed at home to work on their farm and raise their two boys. She did many of the chores associated with their life on the farm.
Ellen enjoyed gardening, berry picking and canning. She also enjoyed picking and identifying wildflowers and watching and indentifying birds. She loved spending time in the outdoors. She also embroidered and crocheted beautiful items. She will be remembered as a kind and gracious person.
She was a member of the Bethel-Stafford Lutheran Church, active in Ladies Aid and also a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her sons, Curtis (Carol) Amundson of Roseau and Roger Amundson of Roseau; grandsons, Eric of Roseau and Michael of St. Paul; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur, in 1989; sisters, Thyra Landin, Anna Olson, and an infant sister; and brothers, Birger Erickson, Henning Erickson, Rudolph Erickson, and Adolph Erickson; sister-in-law, Edla Erickson; brothers-in-law, Matt Landin and Conrad M. Olson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 14th at 2 PM at the Bethel-Stafford Lutheran Church, rural Roseau. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-8 PM at Helgeson Funeral Home in Roseau.
Interment will be at the Bethel-Stafford Cemetery.
