DEATH AT CARTHAGE
JOHN JAMES, FORMER ADAMS COUNTY MAN.
Was Father of Judge Charles A. James of Hancock County and Died on Sunday at the Home of the latter. John James, aged 77 years a former well known resident of this county, but for the past two years residing with his son, Judge Charles A. James, at Carthage, passed away there yesterday morning. He had been ill for a long time suffering from a complication of diseases, and was a patient at a local hospital for some time before taking up his residence with his son. He was a native of Missouri, but came to this county when but a youth and Mendon and Ursa townships were his home for many years. He became a resident of Ursa about twenty years since, and was for a long time engaged in the grain business with George McAdams, the firm doing an extensive business. Beside the son, Judge James above mentioned, he leaves five other children. They are: Charles, of this county; Edward, who resides in the west; Walter, of Missouri; Mrs. George Shepherd, of Ursa, and Mrs. Herbert Ketchum, of Kansas City. There are also a large number of grandchildren and other relatives, the latter including Mrs. McNay of Ursa, who is a sister, while Deputy Sheriff D.F. McNay of this city is a nephew. Deceased was an exemplary citizen and one who enjoyed the respect and esteem of all who knew him.
