John S. Painter, 72, of Bramwell, died Thursday, March 6, 1975 in a Bluefield hospital after a short illness.
He was born September 20, 1902 in Bramwell and was a son of the late Thomas Sidney and Virginia Cowan Painter.
He had been a resident of Bramwell his entire life and was a retired employee of N & W Railroad. He was also retired from the Town of Bramwell as Superintendent of the water works. He was a member of the Bramwell Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are ihis widow, Helen Shupe Painter; two daughters, Mrs. R.D.(Jenny) Painter of Roanoke, Va., and Mrs. McKinley (Mary Helen) Cornett of Bluewell; three sons, Richard Painter of Bramwell, Emmett Painter of Bramwell and Clarence Painter of Charleston; two brothers, W.D. Painter of Bluefield, Va., and R.C. Painter of Lynchburg, Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Clyde Owens of Bluefield, Mrs. G.P. Murphy of Bramwell and Mrs. Vineyard Maxie of Bramwell.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Bramwell Presbyterian Church with Dr. C.H. Patterson and Rev. Robert Kennedy officiating.
Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery at Bluewell.
Pallbearers will be Glenn Scott, Don Murphy, Roy Kidd, Robert Eller, Hampton Hill, Edward Nicewander, Ralph Cowan, Garnett Riddle.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Anello, J.C. Newbold, Louis Shelton, A.L. Poteet, Alfred Smith, O'Dell Adams, Jim Nowlin, Lee Morrissette, Ed Dillon.
Ladies of the church will carry flowers.
Friends may call at Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell form 6 to 9 p.m. and at the church one hour prior to the service.
