Arthur Meeks Cooper, born October 14, 1922 in Bicknell, Utah, was the youngest of the six girls born to Matilda Nielsen and Robert Arthur Meeks.
The sisters were affectionately known as "the Meeks girls": Cora, Romania (and Frank) Wise, Margaret (and Jim) Huber, Gladys (and Wallace) Mathis, Mary (and Clayton) Bishop. Her father, Robert Arthur Meeks, was a cattle rancher in Wayne County, Utah.
After six girls and no sons her father blessed her with his name. Her mother, Matilda, was known for her faith and her amazingly delicious cooking. Arthur and her sisters attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. When WWII broke out she worked in Salt Lake City, first at the State Capitol, and then at the Denver Rio Grande Railroad Station, where Gordon B. Hinckley was the efficient station master.
She was living in the Beehive House in Salt Lake City when she met Lester Thomas Cooper, just before he shipped out to the Pacific Theater. After his return they were married 26 January 1946 and lived in Flagstaff, Arizona over 50 years.
Arthur and Lester had two children: Judy Cooper Greer (deceased) and Larry Lester Cooper.
Arthur is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities including as a Relief Society president for the ward and stake. After Lester's death Arthur began spending winters in Mesa with her daughter Judy and son-in-"love" Paul Greer and summers in Orem with her son Larry and daughter-in-"love" Catherine. She is remembered as a kind, positive, and gentle person with a quick wit. She loved animals, especially Boston terriers.
Arthur passed away peacefully at home in Orem, UT June 4, 2013. She was 90.
Her funeral will be June 5th at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem Utah. The viewing will be at 6:00 pm and the funeral at 7:00 pm.
She will be buried in Snowflake, Arizona, beside her husband on Thursday June 6th at 4:00 p.m. Arthur will be remembered for her commitment to family, friends and community.
