The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Corporal Carlton Stephenson (ASN: 1319639), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company B, 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Division, A.E.F., near Catillon, France, 18 October 1918. Severely wounded, Corporal Stephenson remained with his automatic rifle section in an exposed position, covering the withdrawal of his company. Although almost surrounded, he inflicted severe losses on the enemy and held this position throughout the day.
