In the 1870 Federal Census of Fremont County, Iowa, he was living on a farm in Ross with his parents and siblings. The household included: Simon Dike, age 50, a farmer born in New York; Mary A, age 45, born in Ohio; Nathaniel, age 26; Simon, age 24; David, age 21; Ephraim, age 18; Joseph J, age 14; Isaac, age 8; John, age 5; and Barrel W, age 3.

In the 1880 Federal Census of Fremont County, Iowa, he was living on a farm in Riverside with his father, stepmother, and siblings. His older brother David had left home at that point and his mother had died. His father had remarried. The household included: Simon Dike, age 66, a farmer born in New York; Hellen, age 38, born in New York; Nathaniel, age 37, born in IL; James, age 22, born in Maine; Isaac, age 18, born in Iowa; John, age 16, born in Iowa; William, age 13, born in Iowa; Charles Bentley,a ge 17, stepson, born in Iowa; Fred Bentley, stepson, and Rhoda, age 13, stepdaughter, born in Iowa.

In the 1920 Federal Census of Blaine County, Oklahoma, he was living with his wife on a farm in Dixon. Their household included: John R Dyke, age 55, born in Iowa to a father from New York and a mother from Pennsylvania; and Emmie, age 53, born in Iowa to a father from Ohio and a mother from Virginia.
