C.D. (Carl) Griggs, 82, of the Union Hill Community, died at 1:10 p.m. Sunday at his home following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Melton Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Mike Boyd, pastor of Necessity Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. Jesse Fambro, pastor of Trinity Baptist Church in Breckenridge, officiating. Burial was in Necessity Cemetery under the direction of Melton Funeral Home.
Mr. Griggs was born Aug. 9, 1896, in Eastland County. He was married to the former Mary Ada Sullivan on Sept. 3, 1916, in Breckenridge. They lived in Eastland following their marriage and moved to Stephens County in 1919 or 1920, where he worked in the oilfields for Magnolia until about 1925.
He had resided in the Union Hill Community since moving to Stephens County and had farmed and ranched since 1925.
He was a Methodist.
Mrs. Griggs preceded him in death June 12, 1974.
A son-in-law, Wesley Hill, preceded him in death in 1975; and two brothers and three sisters also preceded him in death.
