Thomas Logan Gaston was a son of Thomas Gaston (1759-1832) and Sarah [née Nichols] Gaston (1764-1818). Born in the Lancaster District of South Carolina on the 7th of April 1805. Shortly after his birth, Thomas' family moved to the area around Mooresville in the Spartanburg District of South Carolina.

Thomas was twice married; his 1st wife was Prudence; whom he married on April 16th 1829. They had the following known children:
Harriet Kesiah (1830-1832)
Josiah Perry (1832-1890)
Parley Clenney (1835-1891)

After Prudence died in 1840, Thomas moved to Buncombe County, North Carolina and married Margaret E. Walker on July 12th 1842 in Haywood, North Carolina. There are no known children to this union.

Thomas Logan Gaston departed this life on March 24th 1854. In his Last Will & Testament dated & signed 16th of October 1852; he mentions his "beloved wife, Margaret E. Gaston" and surviving sons, Josiah P. Gaston & Parley C. Gaston.
