Alan L. Knight, 78, of Strafford, N.H., son of John and Alberta (Wheeler) Knight passed away peacefully at his home Tuesday, June 17, 2008.

Alan was a lifelong resident of Strafford. He served six years in the U.S. Air Force. He retired after 30 years of service from the University of New Hampshire.

Alan's love was his family. He also enjoyed fishing, working construction and when he could, plowing snow. He was loved by his family and well liked and respected by his friends. Alan will truly be missed.

Surviving Alan is his wife of 57 years, Beatrice (Pitman) Knight; two sons, Gary and Michael and their families; two grandsons; one granddaughter, and four great-grandchildren, all of Strafford; one brother, John Knight and family of Holderness, N.H.

Alan was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Paul and one sister, Sara.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, June 21, from 10-11am in the Chapel of the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 South Main St., Rochester. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
