He loved his work, his family, and his "place" with all the wild animals he fed. He never forgot his farming roots and kept farming equipment in his yard and planted a large garden every year. From the Omaha World Herald Newspaper:
He was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1932, on the kitchen table of the family farm near what is now 66th and Grover Streets.

When Christen Peter Christensen Sr. died Sunday at 80, he still owned the land where the farmhouse had stood. (His Danish great-grandfather, for whom he was named, had bought the land around the turn of the 20th century.) He also still lived in the neighborhood.

Christensen died at Bergan Mercy Medical Center from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, said his daughter, Dawn Kowal of La Vista.

His formal education ended after eighth grade. While still a teenager, he founded and was owner-operator of Christensen Excavating Co. Inc.

"House basements and grading were his specialty," Kowal said. "He was a perfectionist — perfect grade, perfect drainage."

Among other work, the company dug the basements for the Tara Heights neighborhood in Papillion and did the demolition of the Family Fun Center and dirt work near 72nd and Dodge Streets, where Raising Cane's now stands, she said.

Son Chris Christensen of Omaha continues to run the business.

In his spare time, Pete Christensen planted a large garden every year and annually traveled to Las Vegas.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jeanette Gibbs Christensen.

Besides his daughter and son, other survivors include son Bruce Christensen of Papillion, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. today at Bethany Funeral Home Chapel, 8201 Harrison St. in La Vista.
