Thomas G. Paulos was born in Sioux City, Iowa in 1924, of his parents George Paulos of Greece and Jeannette Stene of Norway, passed away of lung cancer on the morning of Sunday, June 2, 2013. Tom's journey into the next world was witnessed by his beloved wife of 67 years, Fran Saccony-Paulos, their eight children, Joseph, Anthony, Daniel, Patricia, Christopher, Mary, Peter, Paul, their spouses, children and grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Mann, all of Sioux City. Tom is survived by two devoted sisters, Kay Byrne of Sioux City, Iowa and Betty Edison of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1942, at age 18, Tom left his parents and family to serve the United States Army in World War II. Tom was stationed in Italy, France and Africa and was honorably discharged in 1945. Once he returned to Sioux City, his sister, Kay, introduced him to her best friend, Fran Saccony, Fran and Kay both worked at the Sioux City Telephone Company. In 1946, Tom and Fran were married at St. Joseph Rectory in Sioux City, Fran, Roman Catholic and Tom, Greek Orthodox. Tom, a chef by trade, supported his large family by working first, at his father's hot-dog shop, and later, by managing food services at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. In 1972, he and his family decided to leave Sioux City to join their son, Dan, in Albuquerque, NM, where Tom, once again, managed food services at St. Joseph Hospital in Albuquerque. His final job before retiring was managing the cafeteria at the Albuquerque Journal with his son, Paul. In retirement, Tom and Fran enjoyed traveling to visit friends and relatives across the country - but especially found pleasure in their annual trips to Sioux City where they were blessed with a heartwarming closeness with their parents and many family members from both sides of the family. Tom was cherished by his entire family - and will not be forgotten in death. A Rosary will be said on Thursday morning, June 6, 2013, for the repose of Tom's soul, at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Road NE at 8:30 a.m. A Mass celebrating his life will follow at 9:00 a.m., immediately followed by a reception in the Shrine Hall. Tom will perpetually rest at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe.
