STAUNTON Wilmer Marion Phillippe, 95, of Waynesboro, and formerly of Staunton, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013. He was born on April 6, 1918, in Augusta County, the son of the late Ephraim and Josie Phillippe. His wife, Rebecca (Knopp) Phillippe, preceded him in death on August 8, 2005. Mr. Phillippe graduated from Beverley Manor High School. During World War II, he served in the Army as a medic and was stationed in the Philippines. Prior to retiring, he was a custom home builder. Wilmer was an active member of the Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and was a member of the choir. In addition to his parents and his wife of 65 years, Mr. Phillippe was preceded in death by four brothers, Everett, Garnett, Oscar, and Paul; and four sisters, Robertine Petry, Kathleen Harvey, Josephine Atkinson, and Bonnie Brown. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Libby and David Beyeler of Waynesboro, Martha and Hunter Black of New Hope, and Becky and Jim Hamill of Newport News; five grandchildren, Lisa Beyeler, Matt Beyeler and his wife, Rhonda, Andrew, Christopher, and Michael Hamill; and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Kendra Beyeler; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, at Memorial Baptist Church by the Reverend Temple D. Myers and Pastor Ben Sprouse. There will be a private burial 10 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, in Augusta Memorial Park in Waynesboro. The family will receive friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Memorial Baptist Church, 224 Taylor St., Staunton, VA 24401 or the charity of one's choice . The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Benjamin Farley and Hospice of the Shenandoah for their outstanding and compassionate care.
