Mr. Jesse M. Sandlin, age 73, of Florence, died Monday, June 30, 2003, at Huntsville Hospital. He was a native and lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder and Sunday school teacher. He was also editor of the Westminster Window. Mr. Sandlin served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was a retired teacher of the Florence city school system. He served four terms as president of Florence Teacher's Association during his 30-year tenure with the school system. He was also a member of Florence (retired) Teacher's Association and Alabama Retired Teacher's Association and was a member of BPOE (Elks) Lodge No. 820 of Florence. Mr. Sandlin was well-known throughout the area as a musician.The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2003, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with burial to follow in Greenview Memorial Park. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Dr. James K. Thompson. Mr. Sandlin's body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m., where the family will receive friends until service time.Mr. Sandlin was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathryn Gibson Sandlin; his father, Monte C. Sandlin; and his mother, Myrtle Sandlin.He is survived by his wife, Gay Sandlin of Florence; son, Mark Sandlin and wife, Laura, of Decatur, Ga.; two daughters, Lisa Angel and husband, Eric, of Florence, and Teresa Campbell and husband, Gary, of Florence; brother, Robert W. Sandlin of Zionsville, Ind.; four grandchildren, Tyler and Carson Angel of Florence, Shaun Campbell and wife, Sarah, and Seth Campbell; and one great-granddaughter, Hannah Grace Campbell.Pallbearers will be Roy Cooper, Herrold Henson, Glen Rikard, Bob Young, John Cruse and Charles Stratford. Honorary pallbearers include members of BPOE No. 820, members of Florence (retired) Teacher's Association, Landa Ellsworth of Dauphin Island, Ala., Billy Graham of Cherokee, Ala., Wyman Abston of Spanish Fort, Ala., Leo Creel and Billy Darby, both of Florence.Special thanks to the doctors and nurses in SICU at Huntsville Hospital, especially Drs. Ronny Johnson, Lowery, Stuckey, Patrick Sargeant, Kathy Myers, Dr. Humphry, Dr. Spera, Dr. Smelser, Dr. Goetsch, Dr. Martin and Dr. Woodard.Greenview Funeral Home of Florence is directing. .
