Barbara was born in Denver, Colorado on February 22, 1937. She grew up in Colorado Springs with her sister Judy and brother, Jerry. After attending the University of Colorado, she became a United Airlines flight attendant and moved to Seattle. It was there that she met and married Richard Paynter, her husband of 52 years.

Together, they had five children, Rick, Carrie, Kristi, David, and Ally. Her grandchildren were her most cherished possessions and they could not spend enough time with her. Among them are Louis, Miles, Ella, Cole, Devin, Christian, and Sylvi.

With her beloved family present, Barbara passed away peacefully in her home on June 2, 2013. A devoted wife and mother, Barbara loved unconditionally, and opened her heart to everyone. She will be greatly missed by all she touched.

A mass will be held at Sacred Heart Church in La Conner, WA on Saturday, June 8 at 11:00 A.M. A reception to celebrate Barbara's life will take place from 12:30 to 2:30 at La Conner Flats, 15920 Best Road, Mt. Vernon, WA.
