Early Life: The only son of his parents. He attended grade school at the University School in Columbus. After the death of his mother in 1936, he attended the boarding schools Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, VT, and Phillips Academy in Andover, MA, graduating in 1940. He attended the Ohio State University in Columbus from 1940 to 1943.
Military Service: U.S. Army
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Charles was called in the U.S. Army in 1943. He was first sent to Fort Bragg, NC, for Artillery basic training. He was then sent to Artillery Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill, OK. He graduated as a 2nd Lieutenant in April 1944, and returned to Fort Bragg as a basic training instructor. Then, because of high demand for Infantry rather than Artillery officers, Charles was sent to Fort Benning, GA, for Infantry training. After completing the Infantry Officers course the opportunity arose to attend the Parachute School, also at Fort Benning. Next, in March 1945 he was sent overseas to Europe. While waiting for assignment, the war ended in May 1945. He was sent to the 101st Airborne Division, which had been assigned to occupation duty in the Austrian Alps. The Division returned to France in the fall and to the U.S. in the winter. Charles was released from the Army in April 1946.

While in the Army, Charles met and married Dorothy Nell Hill of McColl, SC, on February 20, 1945. After leaving the Army in 1946, Charles returned to Ohio State and completed a Bachelors Degree in Physics in 1946, and a Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1948. Charles worked as an electrical engineer for Sperry Gyroscope Co. in Great Neck, NY, Gilfillan Brothers in Los Angeles, CA, and Rantec Corporation in Calabasas, CA. At Rantec, he was in charge of the Engineering department from 1967 to 1977. These companies specialized in microwave radar and communications equipment. From 1977 to 2002 he was in business for himself as an engineer consultant.

Charles and Dorothy had four daughters, five grand and three great-grandchildren. The daughters are: Charlotte (Phil) Rosenberg, Rebecca Rockwell, Claudia (Keith) Bryan, Amy Chandler; grandchildren: Elyse Rosenberg, Rachel Rosenberg, Timothy Rockwell, Christopher Bryan, Kelly Bryan; great-grandchildren: Evie Brown, Tanner Rockwell and Tyler Salvadar. Dorothy Chandler passed away in January 1981. Charles married Ilah Bond Williams in October 1982. Ilah Chandler passed away in January 2001. Charles married Arlene Mecham Widdison October 2, 2002. Arlene's sole surviving son, Jodie Royal Widdison, is Chuck's stepson.

Charles enjoyed snow skiing, tennis, horseback riding, ballroom dancing, and traveling. He passed away Sunday, June 2, 2013, in Heber City, Utah. He was 90.
Religion/Associations: A member of the LDS Church and served in various capacities including high priest, missionary leader, temple patron, and home teacher.
Preceded In Death By: His parents, two wives and his only sister, Margaret Frances Chandler Cheney.
