Betty was the daughter of the late Peter and Kitty Altieri of Dumont, New Jersey. She was born on April 11, 1933 in Manhattan and spent her grammar school years in the Clason Point area of the Bronx, where at 7 years old she met her future husband. Betty attended St. Cecilia High School in Englewood, New Jersey and Montclair State Teachers College in Montclair, New Jersey. After her graduation in 1955, Betty joined the faculty of Hackensack High School, teaching English. Betty married Ditto, then an Ensign in the U.S. Navy, on May 19, 1956. They spent the early years of their marriage in Alameda California where Ditto was stationed as a Naval Aviator with the Pacific Fleet and where their first child was born. In 1958 Betty and Ditto returned to civilian life on the east coast, ultimately settling in Clason Point where they raised their four children. They moved to Stamford in 1992 where they frequently entertained their children, grandchildren, extensive family, and many friends.

Betty was a devoted daughter, caring sister, loyal friend and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Blessed since birth with extraordinary beauty, charm and intelligence, Betty was the perfect hostess and the life of every gathering. Betty found her greatest joy in nurturing her children, the birth of every grandchild and every moment she spent with her childhood sweetheart and love of her life, her devoted husband Ditto.

Betty was the proud mother of Catherine and Tim Langan, Frank and Monica, Nora and Dan Harris and John and Luci. Betty was blessed with 16 grandchildren.
