He was born March 10, 1944, in Galesburg, the son of Donald G. and Nellie E. (Alderman) Sedgwick.
He is survived by three brothers, Gary (and Lynne) Sedgwick of Lemoore, Calif., Ted (and Natalie) Sedgwick of Lake Bracken, Galesburg, and Jon (and Barbara) Sedgwick of Naples, Fla.; one nephew; four nieces; and several great-nephews and great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Walter graduated from Galesburg High School in 1962. He attended Illinois State University, Canton Community College (now Spoon River College), and Carl Sandburg College. He moved to Chicago in 1979 and returned to Galesburg in 2003. Walter worked as a cook at Jim's Steakhouse, American Beauty Restaurant, and Stride's. He was a travel agent for over 30 years for The Travel Agency, Variety Travel, and Sunburst Travel Agency, all in Chicago.
Walter was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and the Order of DeMolay.
He served in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Orlando, Fla., before Disney, Guam, and King Salmon, Ala.
Cremation will be accorded. Graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, 2013, in the Rock Island National Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
