John Pizar, 90 a former longtime resident of Kingston, died Tuesday June 4, 2013 at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport, MA, following a brief illness.

Born in Newburyport , son of the late, Michael and Tansey Pizar, he attended local schools and graduated from Newburyport High School. He served as a Fire Controlman First Class in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Biloxi and was a recipient of several awards and accommodations, including four medals and fourteen battle stars.

Mr. Pizar received his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering and later his Bachelor's Degree of Business Administration in Engineering and Management from Northeastern University. He retired from Western Electric, AT & T Technologies, Lucent Technologies after thirty-nine years of service with thirty years as a Supervisor in Quality Control.

A member of the American Society of Quality Control, Merrimack Valley Section since 1961, he was named chairman in 1965 and received the HiStein Award for the best managed section during his tenure. He went on to become the Northeast Quality Council Representative for Merrimack Valley Section and later served as Chairman of the Council and also chaired the Annual Northeast Quality Council Conference in 1968. He received the R. Shaw Goldthwaite Award in 1984 for his contributions and devotion in furthering Quality in the Northeast Region. He was honored in 1994 with an award established in his name to recognize members of the Merrimack Valley Section for their superlative service.

A Master Mason and member of Gideon Lodge #84, he was a sixty-three year resident of 105 Main St., Kingston before moving to Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA, eight months ago. He was active in the Town of Kingston and donated the American flags that the town uses for holiday display. He also enjoyed playing pool and cribbage.
He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Jean (Bragdon) Pizar, daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and James Foy and Pamela and William Gray, all of Kingston, grandchildren, Michael Foy and wife Sara of Kingston, Jeffrey Foy and wife Melissa of East Kingston, Scott Foy and wife Stephanie of Brentwood, Courtney (Gray) Deschesne and husband Brian and Stacy Gray, all of Kingston, eleven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
