Aaron Alexander Power

Aaron Alexander Power was born in Pendleton county, Kentucky, in 1821 (hard to make out last two digits). He moved with his parents to Marion, Rush county, Ind., and later to Des Moines, Iowa in 1840. He was married in Lee county, Iowa, in 1846, to Rebecca Herring. To this union were born six children, three girls and three boys. George Power is the only son now living. He joined the Methodist church in 1847, and was licensed as a local preacher about 1856. He moved to Great Bend, Kansas in 1875, then to Emporia about twenty years ago. Here his first wife died.

He married a second time to Elizabeth Ballard. She died here in 1903. In 1861 Mr. Power was elected county superintendent of schools, was elected and served two years as probate judge of Wayne county, Iowa. He belonged to the border cavalry in Iowa during the war under Governors Kirkwood and Stone.

The funeral services of A. Power were held yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock from Grace M.E. church, Rev. Ramsburg conducted the services at the church. The interment was in Elmwood [Maplewood]
