Uriah John was born in Canada to Peter and Elizabeth Bogart in 1849. He joined the Army in 1863 and was a member of the 36th NY Infantry. He was discharged in December 1866. He then moved to Iowa. Along the way he met a pretty girl named Sarah Belle Mendel in Michigan. They married 5 years later in 1871 and moved to Iowa. Together they had 7 children. They moved from Iowa; to Missouri, then back to his home in Winchester,Dundas Co. Ontario. After that in about 1880 they moved to Russell, St. Lawrence Co, NY. Urias worked in the lumber industry and was very devout in his religion. He became the town school teacher, but the drink got the better of him. He died of Gastric Ulceration of the liver and Sclerosis of the liver.

According to his death certificate acquired from the town of Fine clerk, my great great grandfather's burial was at Woodland Cemetery in Fine, NY. However there is no stone or marker or even mention of him in the record book. Old records can be misplaced or even destroyed. It is my hope that I can obtain some proof of his burial at Woodland and a visual of his grave. This legal document places my proof of his burial in this cemetery.
