John Henry Ruth , Sr . , the son of Mishie Stevens Ruth and Fred Lewis Ruth , was born in Itawamba County , Mississippi on May 29 , 1919 . John's paternal grandparents were William C. Ruth and Mary Etta Davis Ruth and his maternal grandparents were William Bennett Stevens and Nancy Thusybelle "Doll" Gilmore Stevens . His siblings were William Ivan Ruth , Lewis Ruth , Deward Hershel Ruth , James H. "Jim" Ruth , Bob Ruth , George W. Ruth , Ruby Ruth Middleton , Betty Ruth Craddock , Dow Ruth , Luna Ruth , and Albert Grover Ruth . During World War II John served in the U.S. Army . He married Minerva Carr in Lee County , Mississippi and there their only child John Henry Ruth , Jr. was born . Later the Ruth family moved to Oktibbeha County , Mississippi with John first working on a farm for Mr. Clayton in the area that is now called Clayton Village near Starkville . For 25 years he was employed in the Agronomy Department of Mississippi State University . He died on April 13 , 2010 in Ackerman at the Choctaw County Nursing Center . He was survived by his son and daughter-in-law John H. Ruth , Jr. and Joyce , five grandchildren , 12 great grandchildren , one great , great grandson , one sister , and three brothers .
