Mrs. Jacobus M. Hofland passed away Thursday, Dec. 14 at 11:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Gerrit E. Horstman at Hull, where she was being cared for the past few weeks after being dismissed from the hospital.
She had reached the age of 88 years and 10 months.
Grietje Bonnes (Mrs. Hofland) was born in the Netherlands on Feb. 14, 1884.
She was united in marriage to Jacobus M. Hofland on Nov. 4, 1903, at Orange City, Iowa.
They farmed at Orange City until they retired to Orange City, where she resided until her recent illness. Mr. Hofland preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1956.
She is survived by 8 children: John of Sanborn; Angeline (Mrs. Gerrit Horstman) of Hull; Katherine (Mrs. Art Schuiteman) of Sioux Center; Gertrude (Mrs. John Jacobs) of Orange City; Henrietta (Mrs. Jake Mars) of Orange City; Elsina (Mrs. Henry Bos) of Melvin; James and Elmer, both of Orange City; two sisters, Kate (Mrs. Ben Hofman) and Lena (Mrs. John Hofman) both of Sanborn; two brothers Cornie of Sanborn and John of Austin, Minn.; 53 grandchildren and 118 greatgrandchildren.
One son, Joe C. (Cornie), 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren preceded her in death.
