Barbara Camille (Cabral) Oppen, former owner of the Bonnie Doone Restaurant in Provincetown MA, died on Dec. 18, 1999, at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis MA after a brief illness.

She was the wife of Richard Oppen of Provincetown and Miami Shores FL. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last year.

Mrs. Oppen was born and raised in Provincetown. She was a graduate of Edgewood Park Junior College in New York, where she majored in merchandising. After her graduation, Mrs. Oppen was a John Robert Powers model in New York during the 1940s. She then returned to Provincetown and went to work at the Bonnie Doone Grille, which her parents opened in 1937.

Mrs. Oppen and her husband moved to Provincetown from Cincinnati during their courtship and worked at the restaurant together for 38 years. They retired in 1986.

The couple summered[sic] in Miami Shores, where Mrs. Oppen was an active member of the Miami Shores Women's Club and the Miami Shores Country Club's Garden Club, where she often won awards for her floral designs. She was a superb cook and hostess, noted for her legendary parties, according to her family.

Mrs. Oppen was a communicant of St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown and St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Miami Shores. She was also a member of the Nautilus Club of Provincetown.

Besides her husband, survivors include her daughters Bonnie Oppen Jordan of Clearwater FL and Stacey Oppen Garvey of Queensbury NY; four grandchildren; an aunt; and several cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated in St. Peter the Apostle Church in Provincetown. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery.
