Clara "June" Henderson, 83, of Flat Rock, died peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with cancer on June 2, 2013 with her family by her side.


She was born in Milroy, Ind. June 22, 1929 to William Childers and Mildred Childers-Adams. She married Earl Raymond Henderson June 21, 1947. He preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1995.


The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Norman Funeral Home in Hope [with burial in Flat Rock Cemetery, Shelby County]. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Fri., and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday.


Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research, Lewis Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, or Hospice of South Central Indiana.


June was a homemaker, beloved mother and wife and Mamaw. She and Earl loved to fish and have neighborhood fish fries. She enjoyed making crafts, especially painting, and she really enjoyed the chance to travel and see new places during her more recent years.


Survivors include two brothers, Clifford Childers of California and Jim Childers of Oregon; a son, Earl Michael (Joyce) Henderson of Hope, Ind.; a daughter Vicki Jo (Kevin) Pitts of Flat Rock, Ind.; grandchildren, Mika (Kurtis) Greenwald of Nevada, Scott (Audrey) Henderson of Florida, Jeremiah Henderson of North Vernon, Joe (Amy) Henderson of Flat Rock, Deona (Brian) Smith of Waldron, and Erin Pitts of Columbus; seven great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Phillip Raymond Henderson; a grandson, Mark Alan Henderson; two brothers; and a sister.
