Dica Ann "Dicy" Smith was born in North Carolina. Her parents are currently unidentified. She married twice in Burke County, NC - the first time to Jacob ENGLAND (abt 1825-1863) and the second time to James Calvin GILES (1844-1932); both men served in the Confederate Army. Dicy mothered 12 children, 11 girls and 1 boy (William Morgan GILES, Harriman, TN City Clerk and City Judge from 1934-1959). Dicy and Jacob lived both in NC and in Anderson Co, TN before he was killed in the war. She and Calvin met in Morganton, NC, married, and with her ENGLAND girls, moved across the mountains by wagon back to Calvin's home in Roane Co, TN, where Dicy died at home in Paint Rock in 1895. [Calvin is found as James Calvin Giles in the findagrave.com database.]
