John Robert Carlson Jr., age 42 years, of Caseville, died Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Covenant Hospital in Saginaw.

John was born June 9, 1970 in Wayne, Michigan to the late John Robert Sr. and Sharon Ann (Louis) Carlson. He grew up in Westland before moving to Waterloo, Alabama where he graduated from high school. John lived a simple and joy filled life with Down Syndrome. He was a proud honorary fireman with the Waterloo Fire Department, enjoyed going to church at the Caseville Methodist Church and participating in Michigan Special Olympics. He was a huge Michael Jackson fan.

He is survived by his grandmother with whom he lived, Bobbie Towler of Caseville; aunts and uncles Debbie (Robert) Sielaff of Royal Oak, Steven (Cindy) Towler of Westland, Kathy (Ron) Siepierski of Walled Lake and Robert L. Towler of Glennie; and many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents and his grandfather Robert K. Towler.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Sunday, June 9th (his 43rd birthday) at the Caseville United Methodist Church with Rev. Linda Fuller officiating. Interment will be in Lawrence County Memorial Gardens in Tennessee.

Visitation will be 11:00 am until 2:00 pm Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville before proceeding to the church for the service.

In a final act of generosity, John's kidneys were donated to Gift of Life.
