Saturday morning the tolling of the German church bell announced to our people that another of our citizens had died - namely, Father Hochstedler. This announcement was not unexpected, as he had been very low for several days. The funeral was from the Evangelical church, of which the deceased had been a most exemplary member for a number of years. Services were conducted both in English and German by the Rev. C. C. Bumgardner, the presiding older. Father Hochstedler was in his seventy-seventh year. A large attendance from Howard county was at the funeral, from the neighborhood where he used to live. Our citizens will miss Mr. Hochstedler perhaps as much as any man who ever lived among us; will miss his kindly greetings and pleasant society. His life has been of the most upright character. He died as he lived, in full assurance of his acceptance into that rest prepared for the children of God.
