From The Daily Northwestern Oshkosh newspaper December 22, 1933:

Rudolph Drexler, 31, Local Baseball Player, Fatally Injured in Accident at Intersection-Driver Held and Inquest is Called.

Death of Rudolph Drexler, 31 years old, Oshkosh ball player, occurred at 11:45 o'clock, Thursday night as a result of injuries sustained at 5:45 o'clock in the evening when he was hit by an automobile driven by W. P. Schliewert.

The accident occurred at the intersection of Jackson drive and Church street. Police and the city ambulance responded to the call and the injured man was taken to Mercy hospital while police obtained statements of witnesses as well as the driver of the car. Death resulted from brain injuries.

Report of witnesses was that it appeared Drexler tried to jump back from in front of the car, but was hit by the right front fender and carried forward. The driver is alleged to have told the police he did not see Drexler until he was within about five feet of him and that he was then helpless to avoid hitting him. The car was proceeding south and the pedestrian was walking east, on the south crosswalk.

The body was to have been viewed the afternoon at the Poklasny funeral home.

Drexler, whose diamond nickname was "Poody" played league baseball for a number of years and was a familiar figure to fans in Oshkosh and other cities in the section. He held down second base for the championship Oshkosh Cardinal squad in 1932 in the Little Fox Valley League, and last summer played with the Cardinals and Kriese?s

He was born in Austria, Nov. 9, 1902, and was brought to Oshkosh by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Drexler, at the age of 1 year.

Survived by Wife, Marie Drexler, Son, Harold Drexler, Father, John Drexler, Mother, Mary Robl Drexler, 1 sister Mary and 4 brothers, Wenzel, John Jr., Joseph, Alois (Louis?) all of Oshkosh.

The funeral will be held Tuesday morning, Dec. 26th at 9 o'clock from the Sacred Heart Catholic church with burial in Sacred Heart cemetery. Rev. M. J. Schmitz will officiate. The body will be at the Poklasny Brothers funeral home.
