She was born on Aug. 7, 1924, in Madison, the daughter of Frank and Rose (Tuminello) Prestigiacomo. She married Vito William Maiale in 1944, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Park Street in Madison. Mary grew up in the Greenbush neighborhood of Madison. She attended and graduated from Central High School. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mary was a fabulous cook, having taken the role of the family matriarch hosting family gatherings.
She enjoyed her four mile walks, shopping, football, and the cooking channel. Mary loved to share stories with her family. She prayed the rosary every day. Her greatest joy was spending time with family.
Mary is survived by her children, Suzanne Johnson of Fitchburg, Joseph F. (Ginger L ) Maiale of Antioch, Ill., Frank G. (Margaret) Maiale of Sheringham, England; two granddaughters, Jessica M. and Andrea J. Maiale; siblings, Josephine Lococo and Frank (Judy) Prestigiacomo; along with numerous other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Willy in 1984; grandson, Jonathan Gregory Johnson in 2000; and brothers, Nick (Mary Don), Tony (Beverly), Joe (Mary), and Sam (Shirley).
A Rosary Service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL HOME, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Madison, at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 4 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. A service will be held at the Resurrection Cemetery chapel at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2013.
