Harry Owen Carter, Sr. age 83 of Roanoke died Saturday, June 1, 2013. He was born in Bedford County on July 11, 1929; he was the son of the late Grover Cleveland Carter and Lissie Virginia Welch Carter. He retired from Southern States.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Virginia Overstreet Carter. He is survived by his children, Lois Carter of Goodview, Sandy Wheeler and husband Butch of Bedford, Eddie Carter of Roanoke, Bonnie Ruff and husband Danny of Forest, and Donna Hodges of Roanoke; grandchildren, Sherry, Crystal, Tammy, Taylor, Casey, April, Tim, Melissa, Charles, Harry and Amanda; a number of great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; sister, Margaret Orange of Bedford; sister-in-law, Faye Overstreet of Bedford; brother-in-law, Dale Overstreet of Bedford and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at the Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Rev. Burks Ruff and Rev. Raymond Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton
